‘Water’ Becomes Tyla’s First Certified Gold Song in Canada

South African sensation Tyla earns her first Gold certification in Canada for her 2023 single ‘Water.’ The song received the official certification on Monday, December 11, for sales and streaming equivalent units of 40,000.

The song was previously certified Silver in the UK for sales and streaming equivalent units of 250,000 in that country.

The global hit released by Sony/EPic Records is also certified Gold is Australia (35,000), New Zealand (15,000 units) and Portugal ( 5,000units), Greece (1,000,000 streams) and Sweden (4,000,000 streams)

‘Water’ holds the 45th position in this week’s Canadian Hot 100 and after reaching its peak at No. 22 earlier this year, the song has spent a total of 11 weeks on the chart.

On the Hot 100, ‘Water’ slips to No. 20 (down from 15 last week) and spends 10 weeks on the chart. The song, which peaked at No. 10, has sold 1 million units in the US, marking her first song to reach this milestone and making it eligible for Gold certification by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA). On the Billboard South African Songs chart it lands at No. 6.

The song produced by Sammy Soso maintains its dominance on the US Billboard Afrobeats chart, spending 9 weeks at No. 1 and Tyla, born Tyla Laura Seethal achieves two new top-ten entries: “Truth Or Dare” at No. 4 and “On and On” at No. 10.

The music video for ‘Truth or Dare’ was shot on location on Portland, Jamaica while the singer was on a triple recently to record music at Geejam studios. With creative direction by Photgrapher Thato and executive produced by her managers Brandon Hixon and Colin Gayle of Africa Creative Agency.
