Wayne Wonder, Sean Paul, and Jimmy Cliff Earn New Platinum, Gold and Silver Certifications In The UK

Wayne Wonder, Sean Paul, and Jimmy Cliff are the three Jamaican artist who have all reached significant milestones in the UK music market with new certifications announced on October 18, 2024. Wonder’s “No Letting Go” is now Platinum (600,000), Sean Paul’s “We Be Burnin’” has gone Gold (400,000), and Jimmy Cliff earned his first Silver certification(200,000) for his cover of “I Can See Clearly Now.”

Wayne Wonder’s 2002 hit “No Letting Go,” produced on the iconic Diwali riddim by Steven ‘Lenky’ Marsden,  peaked at No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart and spent 31 weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 11. It was the lead single from his album No Holding Back (2003), which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album.

Sean Paul’s 2005 hit “We Be Burnin’,” the lead single from his album The Trinity, is now certified Gold in the UK, marking his 14th single to reach Gold or higher. The track spent 22 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at No. 2, and reached No. 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It was previously certified Platinum in the US and has been a global success, with almost 130 million YouTube views.

Jimmy Cliff, 72, has achieved his first Silver certification in the UK for the 1993 cover of Johnny Nash’s “I Can See Clearly Now,” featured in the Cool Runnings soundtrack. The track, Cliff’s highest-charting song in the US, peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 23 in the UK. With over 190 million plays on Spotify, the song continues to be a fan favorite.

“I Can See Clearly Now” has sold sold 752K units in the U.S. according to data supplied exclusively to WMV by Luminate.
