Wizkid Earns Two New RIAA Gold Certifications as New Album ‘Morayo’ Charts in 19 Countries

Wizkid’s Ginger featuring Burna Boy has been certified Gold in the U.S., achieving 500,000 units in combined streams and sales equivalent units, as announced by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on November 22, 2024.

The track was released as the third single from WizKid’s Made in Lagos album on January 21, 2021. Accompanied by a visually striking music video directed by Meji Alabi—renowned for his work on Burna Boy’s “Pull Up” and “On the Low”—the video features the artists dancing in a minimalistic warehouse setting, with interspersed shots of models and cars.

Ginger blends Yoruba, Afro-Latin, and Afrobeats percussion, contributing to the album’s “homecoming” feel, and further solidifying the global appeal of the Nigerian superstars.

On Friday, Wizkid also earned a Gold certification for his single Joro, written and produced with Northboi. This brings his total to 10 RIAA Gold certifications, while Burna Boy has now achieved 5. Wizkid is extends his lead as the highest selling Afrobeats act in the U.S., surpassing 20 million certified units.

The Nigerian artist released his sixth studio album, Morayo, on November 22, 2024, via Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records. The 16-track album, named after his late mother Juliana Morayo Balogun, features collaborations with artists like Asake, Brent Faiyaz, Tiakola, Jazmine Sullivan, and Anaïs. The album includes singles such as “Piece of My Heart” (featuring Brent Faiyaz) and “Kese (Dance),” with the former achieving notable chart success.

Morayo follows WizKid’s 2021 album More Love, Less Ego, which reached No. 2 on World Albums. The new release is described by WizKid as his best album yet, marking a personal and professional milestone. The album’s tracklist includes songs like “Bad Girl” (featuring Asake), “Après Minuit” (featuring Tiakola), and “Slow” (featuring Anaïs). The album’s release comes three years after More Love, Less Ego and continues WizKid’s influence in global music, with his previous work earning Grammy nominations and chart-topping hits like “Essence” featuring Tems

WizKid’s Morayo album has achieved impressive chart success across multiple countries. On Apple Music, it reached #1 in 20 countries, including Nigeria, the UK, Ghana, Kenya, and the UAE. It also charted high in regions like Ireland, Tanzania, and Uganda. In addition, the album ranked in the top 10 in several other countries, including South Africa, the Netherlands, and the United States.

On iTunes, Morayo peaked at #1 in Nigeria and South Africa, and secured top 20 spots in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Ireland, with notable rankings in Sweden and Denmark as well. The album’s widespread success highlights its global appeal, particularly in Africa, Europe, and beyond.
