Wizkid’s Ginger featuring Burna Boy has been certified Gold in the U.S., achieving 500,000 units in combined streams and sales equivalent units, as announced by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on November 22, 2024.
The track was released as the third single from WizKid’s Made in Lagos album on January 21, 2021. Accompanied by a visually striking music video directed by Meji Alabi—renowned for his work on Burna Boy’s “Pull Up” and “On the Low”—the video features the artists dancing in a minimalistic warehouse setting, with interspersed shots of models and cars.
Ginger blends Yoruba, Afro-Latin, and Afrobeats percussion, contributing to the album’s “homecoming” feel, and further solidifying the global appeal of the Nigerian superstars.
On Friday, Wizkid also earned a Gold certification for his single Joro, written and produced with Northboi. This brings his total to 10 RIAA Gold certifications, while Burna Boy has now achieved 5. Wizkid is extends his lead as the highest selling Afrobeats act in the U.S., surpassing 20 million certified units.
The Nigerian artist released his sixth studio album, Morayo, on November 22, 2024, via Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records. The 16-track album, named after his late mother Juliana Morayo Balogun, features collaborations with artists like Asake, Brent Faiyaz, Tiakola, Jazmine Sullivan, and Anaïs. The album includes singles such as “Piece of My Heart” (featuring Brent Faiyaz) and “Kese (Dance),” with the former achieving notable chart success.
