And reggae singer Denroy Morgan has died.
His family released a statement today announcing his death. Morgan was once part of the Black Eagles, before launching a prosperous solo career in the 1980s. His children, encouraged by his success, have also taken on musical careers themselves including Laza Morgan, Gramps Morgan, and in family bands LMS and Morgan Heritage.
This week we feature Steve Stoute, an American music executive turned entrepreneur and author. He is the founder and CEO of the Translation, a marketing agency, and the author of The Tanning of America: How Hip-Hop Created a Culture That Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy.
Stoute was president of Urban Music for Sony Music Entertainment, where he played a role in launching the music careers of Will Smith. He was also the former manager to Nas, Trackmasters and Mary J. Blige.
In 2009 he was inducted in the Advertisers Hall OF Achievement, and was recognized as “Innovator of the Year” in 2010 at the ADCOLOR awards ceremony.
