World’s Third Largest Cruise Ship Crashed In Jamaica

Royal Caribbean International Harmony of the Seas

The Royal Caribbean’s Harmony Of The Seas collided into the dock at the Falmouth, Trelawny pier this morning.

The 226,963 gross tons cruise ship was seen slowing veering into the concrete dock as onlookers as well as cruise passengers watched in amazement.

The incident did not cause any significant damage to the shop, only dents, paint scrapes, and other damage to the cruise ship which have since been repaired.

“There were no injuries to guests or crew and only minor cosmetic damage to the ship’s stern. The sailing will continue as scheduled,” Royal Caribbean said.

The Oasis-class Harmony of the Seas which is currently sailing a 7-night Western Caribbean itinerary was built by STX France at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, for Royal Caribbean International.  She is the third largest passenger ship in the world, larger than her older sisters Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, but surpassed by her newer sisters Symphony of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas. In length, however, Harmony of the Seas is the longest cruise ship in the world.

Royal Caribbean is the same company ship that host the Welcome To Jamrock Cruise on their Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas. The new sail dates for Welcome To Jamrock Reggae Cruise 2022 will be December 7-12, 2022 sailing out of Miami Florida port terminals. The Freedom of the Seas ship is the sister ship to the Independence of the Seas.

Also on Thursday (May 26), a Carnival Cruise ship caught fire while it docked in the Turks & Caicos Islands.

Carnival Cruise Line issued a statement, saying: “Carnival Freedom‘s emergency response team quickly activated and extinguished a fire inside the ship’s funnel while the ship was in Grand Turk. All guests and crew are safe, and the ship’s guests were cleared by local authorities to go ashore. We continue to assess the situation.”

The Carnival Freedom had departed Florida on Monday for a five-day cruise.
