Year Of The Women: Karol G and Shakira Have The Most Viewed Music Videos On YouTube For 2023

KAROL G and Shakira are closing the year with their first collaboration “TQG” ranked as the most streamed music video on YouTube for 2023 with 911,319,414 according to YouTube data.The latin pop duo’s sensational break-up hit dedicated to their ex-boyfriends was featured on Karol’s album, “Mańana Será Bonito,” released on February 24 after Shakira’s highly-publicized separation from soccer star Gerard Piqué.

Shakira’s own empowerment anthem, “BZRP Music Session #53,” with Argentinian producer Bizarrap also became a standout diss track of 2023, landing at No. 4 on YouTube’s most viewed music video list ending the year with 665,933,273 streams. The song peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin songs chart.

“Las mujeres ya no lloran, las mujeres facturan” (women don’t cry anymore, women generate money), Shakira sings making the song an anthem for empowered women worldwide. As if the jab wasn’t enough to get her message across, the Columbian singer croons further down in the song lyrics that translate to be,“A wolf like me doesn’t have time for novices like you/ I was too much for you, that’s why you’re now with someone more like yourself,” she sings over a futuristic pop-electronica beat. “You left me the in-laws as my neighbors, media outlets at my door and in debt with the Treasury./ You thought you hurt me, but you made me stronger/ Women don’t cry anymore, they cash in.”

Upon its the song amassed over 82 million views on YouTube within 24 hours, setting a new record for the platform, and achieved high positions on various Billboard charts.

Last year’s top video on YouTube Gulshan Kumar’s ‘Shree Hanuman Chalisa’ slips to No. 2 but also becoming the most-played Indian song-video on YouTube of all time.

The video released May 9, 2011 became the first music video in India to surpass 3 billion views and in 2023 alone it earned 747,368,141 views.

The Bollywood song “Pathaan” by Shah Rukh Khan is the third most streamed song on YouTube with 728,619,177 views since January 1. The song was released on December 22 on YouTube last year and within 30 minutes over a million people viewed the video.

Turning back to Nort America, “La Bebe (Remix)” by Mexican singers Yng Lvcas & Peso Pluma comes in at No. 4 with 724,506,838 views. Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” at No. 6 with 660,441,254 views, Grupo Frontera and Bad Bunny’s “UN X100TO”at No. 7 with 650,027,907.

“Crazy Frog” by Axel F earned 555,165,301 views to land at No. 8

Rema, Selena Gomez breakthrough global hit “Calm Down” (Official Music Video) is at No. 9 with 552,956,271 views. It is the most streamed African song on the platform this year and Rema’s first time making YouTube most streamed year-end list.

Yuridia and Angela Aguilar’s “Qué Agonía” rounds out the top 10 with 540,820,032 views.
