YG Marley’s Praise Jah In The Moonlight Is now certified Gold in the US (500,000 units) and Platinum in Canada (80,000 units). The awards were issued by the Recording Industry Association Of America and Music Canada respectively on Monday June 24, and June 20 respectively.
The song written by YG Marley’s mother Lauryn Hill peaked at No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 and had a 13-week run. It samples Bob Marley’s “Crisis” and is also Brit Certified Silver in the UK for selling 200,000 units and Platinum in New Zealand (30,000) where it also topped the New Zealand Songs Chart.
Elsewhere, “Praise Jah in the Moonlight” reached the top position in the Netherlands Tipparade chart (1), and secured high placements in Luxembourg (8), the Netherlands (8), and Switzerland (5). The song also performed strongly in the UK Official chart (5), Portugal (6), Norway (6), Sweden (9), and Ireland (9), breaking into the top 10. Additionally, it achieved notable rankings in Australia (19), Brazil (27), Canada (20), Denmark (23), France (29), Germany (46), and the US (34), demonstrating its widespread popularity and appeal.
The song has surpassed 300 million streams on Spotify, the highest streaming reggae song released in the last 5 years.
YG will make his Reggae Sumfest debut on July 19, following his performance at Coachella where he was joined on stage by Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, Busta Rhymes, and Spiff Starr.
The son of Rohan Marley, released his second single, “Survival,” on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 which draws inspiration from Bob Marley & The Wailers’ 1979 song “Babylon System.”
