YG Marley’s “Praise Jah in the Moonlight” Achieves Silver Certification in the UK (200,000)

YG Marley‘s track “Praise Jah in the Moonlight” is now certified Silver in the U.K. for selling 200,000 units in that country. The award was issued on Friday by the British Phonographic Industry with sales data provided by the Official Charts Company.

The song, co-written by YG Marley and his mother Lauryn Hill, was the only reggae song among 54 singles and albums to receive certification on March 15, 2024. It peaked at No. 5 on the UK Official Singles Chart and No. 1 on the UK Independent Singles chart in the week of February 7. “Praise Jah In The Moonlight” samples Bob Marley’s 1978 track “Crisis.”

Bob Marley’s last U.K. top 5 entry was “Sun is Shining,” which peaked at No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart, and “Exodus,” the 1977 track by Marley, was only certified Silver two weeks ago.

The journey of “Praise Jah in the Moonlight” began during YG Marley’s performances at the “Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill” 25th Anniversary concerts in late 2023. The song’s infectious energy garnered attention on platforms like TikTok, leading to its official release on December 27, 2023. Since then, it has achieved remarkable international success, peaking at #1 on the New Zealand Songs Chart and reaching #20 on the Billboard Global 200, securing top 20 positions in various countries including Norway (#8), Switzerland (#10), and Canada (#22).

In the United States, the track peaked at No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week ending March 9. Additionally, on the United World Chart, it landed at an impressive No. 25 spot with 103,000 points. The song is also Platinum in New Zealand (30,000) and has surpassed 150 million streams on Spotify, marking his first song to reach this milestone.

This is the first reggae entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since “Bam” by Jay-Z and Damian Marley in 2017.

A music video for “Praise Jah In Moon Light” was filmed in Jamaica last weekend, directed by Cole Bennett (Lil Yachty, Eminem). The video, soon to be released, features cameos from Lauryn Hill, Jessie Royal, Kabaka Pyramid, and the people of Trench Town, Jamaica, where his grandfather is from.
