YG Marley’s breakout hit song Praise Jah In The Moonlight is now certified Platinum in the U.S.. According to the Recording Industry Association Of America the song has surpassed sales and streams on 1 million units as of November 22, 2024.
It is the first single by a reggae artist to become certified Platinum in the U.S. since Mek It Bun Dem by Skrillex featuring Damian Marley in 2017. It also makes YG the youngest reggae artist to earn a Platinum single certification in the United States. The song was previously certified Gold in June for sales and streams surpassing 500,000 units.
The song, written by YG Marley’s mother Lauryn Hill, sampled Bob Marley’s “Crisis” and peaked at No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100, staying on the chart for 13 weeks.
Internationally, Praise Jah In The Moonlight also reached Platinum status in Canada, New Zealand, was Brit Certified Silver in the UK on July 19 this year. It topped charts in multiple countries, including the Netherlands and Luxembourg. It has surpassed 379 million streams on Spotify, making it the highest-streaming reggae song in the last five years.

The 22 year old is the son of Rohan Marley, and the grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley. Marley ventured into modeling in 2017, landing a campaign with Urban Outfitters and appearing in Teen Vogue with his sister. He started getting a buzz in the industry when he posted snippet of Drake’s “Nice for What“ in 2018 on his snapchat story which sampled his mother’s 1998 hit Ex Factor.
