YG Marley’s “Praise Jah In The Moonlight” has earned Gold certification in the UK.
The award was issued on Friday July 19, 2024 by the British phonographic Industry for selling 400,000 units in streams and sales as measured by the Official Charts Company. This is his first Gold certification in the country.
The song was previously certified Gold in the US (500,000 units) and Platinum in Canada (80,000 units). Written by his mother Lauryn Hill, it is her sixth song to be certified Gold in the country following Doo Wop (That Thing) and Ex Factor from her Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill album (1998) as well as her Fugees songs Fu-gee La, Killing Me Softly, No Woman No Cry and Ready of Not. peaked at No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 and had a 13-week run.
“Praise Jah In The Moonlight” samples Bob Marley’s “Crisis” and is also Platinum in New Zealand (30,000 units), where it topped the New Zealand Songs Chart.
The song reached top positions in several charts, including the Netherlands Tipparade (1), Luxembourg (8), the Netherlands (8), Switzerland (5), the UK Official chart (5), Portugal (6), Norway (6), Sweden (9), and Ireland (9). It also had strong placements in Australia (19), Brazil (27), Canada (20), Denmark (23), France (29), Germany (46), and the US (34).
“Praise Jah in the Moonlight” has surpassed 300 million streams on Spotify, making it the highest-streamed reggae song released in the last five years. YG Marley will debut at Reggae Sumfest on July 19.
Last month YG performed alongside his mother at the BET Awards in a Fugees reunion set, the same night the movie Bob Marley: One Love won Best movie at the awards.
