Top selling pop star Ed Sheeran and dancehall artist Ishawna continue their love affair in a telephone booth with a new video for “Brace it.” The official music for the song comes almost a year after the track was released on streaming platforms (Jun 24, 2022). In the visuals, released on Tuesday (May 23, 2023) Ishawna and Ed communicate in a long distance relationship dropping seductive lyrics for each other in a British style telephone Boothe. Ed in a garden and Ishawna calling from the more truncated woods letting Sheeran know she is ready to risk it all: “Slide and Whine pop me good up” she says invitingly over the phone.
“Brace It” featuring Ed Sheeran has similar production modules used on Tony Kelly’s “Buy Out” Riddim with alslib like “Hear this” made popular by Ishawna’s Downsound Entertainment former label mate Ninja Man who is now incarcerated.
The groovy modern dancehall track is made by reggae hitmaker Don Corleone with production by Corleone, Skatta Burrel and Ishawna.
In the video Sheeran, a top streaming British singer matched Ishawna’s energy as they seduce each other back and forth as they suggestively in nuanced dancehall lingua and expressions.
“Me good up, bwoy come wine pon me good up, slide and wine pon me good up,” Ishawna sings and Sheeran responds with “Brace It Brace It pon me.”
Ishawna posted in Instagram on Tuesday, ” I can’t believe we shot this video almost a year ago😭 It was such an awesome experience and I’m so happy to share it with the world🙌🏽🎶🔥
I also want thank @teddysphotos publicly for EVERYTHING!!! You’re truly one of a kind and an inspiration. Love you forever!❤️💕 Brace It [Official Video] Ft. Ed Sheeran is out now🎶🎥🔥🔥🔥#Ishawna #EdSheeran #BraceIt.”
The late blooming dancehall video comes on the heels of Sheeran winning a few lawsuits filed against him for copyright infringement including most recently a victory over the Marvin Gaye Estate, who accused the Shape Of You singer of ripping off “Lets Get It On” four chord intro on his global hit Thinking Out Loud.
The two connected after Ishawna did a song titled “Equal Rights”, which is a Jamaican remix of his “Shape Of You” using the same track to spit dancehall lyrics about reciprocating oral sex. A topic which is considered taboo in some sections of dancehall culture.
Sheeran who quickly got wind of the local hit told Qmusic Nederland, “There are so many remixes of it, I was in the Caribbean, and I heard like a totally different song, It is really really filthy, but she is just singing about her man going down on her,” he said candidly.
Their affinity for each other’s music manifested into a collaboration November 2021 when Ishawna broke the news that she would be recording a new song with the pop star.
Ed’s latest album – (Subtract) is spending a second week at No. 1 on the British Albums chart. This gives the hitmaker a perfect score for all his six albums which has all spent multiple weeks at the top.
The summer time themed music video for “Brace it” which has given a lifeline to track is released by Ishawna’s Legendary records is produced by reggae-dancehall hit makers Don Corleone and Skatta Burrel who are no strangers to making both local and international hits.
