TikTok sensation YG Marley dropped his second single, “Survival,” on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. The offspring of Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley shared the exciting news with his followers on Instagram, expressing his affection and anticipation: “I’m releasing this today. I love you all, and I hope you enjoy it.”

Shortly after he announced the song is now live as he could not wait, “Matter of fact I’m not waiting anymore. OUT NOW!!”

DJ Khaled, a fervent advocate for the burgeoning talent of the young Marley, expressed his enthusiasm with the words, “We are ready.” On “Survival” YG takes creative license with his grandfather’s lyrics, much like he did with “Praise Jah In The Moonlight,” by interposing, “We Are Who We Are, and that’s the way it’s going to be,” drawing inspiration from Bob Marley & The Wailers’ “Babylon System,” from the 1979 album Survival.

Reggae Sumfest 2024 also announced the addition of YG to this year’s line up , fresh off his appearance at Coachella where his mother Lauryn Hill, Wyclef, Busta Rhymes and Spiff Starr joined him on stage in a fiery set. YG is set to be on stage on Reggae Sumfest for the first time on Friday July 19 according to the announcement.

Last week YG Marley’s hit song “Praise Jah in The Moonlight” exited the Billboard Hot 100 after a successful 13-week run. Debuting at #66 and peaking at #34, the track, which samples Bob Marley’s “Crisis” and was co-written with Lauryn Hill, achieved significant international recognition, including a BritCertified Silver certification in the UK for selling 200,000 units. This marked the first reggae entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since 2017.
