Dancehall star Masicka says the love and support of his fans remain his greatest reward, even as he welcomes the possibility of earning a Grammy nomination.
Speaking with JR Watkis, CEO of World Music Views at the launch of his Forever 1NE Music Festival, the entertainer reflected on his musical journey, his consistency in the industry and the significance of international recognition ahead of the upcoming Grammy nominations.
“We just want to give back to the fans here, because the fans here support me, they support the Forever Reign album, and yeah, it’s just that time of the year,” he said.
With Grammy nominations approaching on November 16, Masicka spoke about his year in music and whether the prospect of recognition from the Recording Academy carried any particular significance.
“I love the studio. I’m always in the studio, I always put out work, I always try to rise in some way, and stay motivated and stay dedicated.”
“Great, great, great. I think from the start of music, I never have a bad year. I remain consistent,” he said.

The artist, who has established himself as one of dancehall’s prominent contemporary voices, made it clear that while a Grammy nomination would be a welcome achievement, his sense of accomplishment is not dependent on awards.
“With the Grammys, if I get nominated, I would love that. Like any other award, it would be a milestone in my career to pivot me,” he explained.
However, Masicka was quick to emphasise that the relationship he has built with his audience carries a value that extends beyond industry accolades.
“At the end of the day for me, it’s the people there, and the people there sometimes is my Grammy,” he declared.
“For them love my music, for them embrace me, Jamaica love me, the world love me.”
Although Grammy recognition has become an increasingly prominent talking point within Jamaica’s music industry, Masicka appears content to allow his work to speak for itself.
“If a Grammy is the destiny, I will get one,” he said.
“Big up to the Grammys and we love that, but we are continuing to do work and we are not stopping.”
