Obama Rallies Democrats in Detroit as Nicki Minaj Joins Trump for Michigan Campaign Showdown

DETROIT, MICHIGAN — October 25, 2026

Michigan has become the center of a high-profile political showdown, with former President Barack Obama rallying Democratic voters in Detroit and President Donald Trump preparing to appear alongside rap superstar Nicki Minaj at a competing Republican campaign event in Port Huron.

The dueling appearances comes as the nation turns its attention Michigan’s November 3 midterm elections, particularly the contest for an open U.S. Senate seat between Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers.

Obama Brings Star Power to Detroit

On Saturday, October 24, Obama took center stage at Cass Technical High School in Detroit, joining Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed and gubernatorial nominee Jocelyn Benson for a major get-out-the-vote rally.

Thousands of supporters gathered as Obama called for greater voter participation and criticized the Trump administration’s handling of the economy and other national issues.

The former president also defended El-Sayed against political attacks involving his name, religion, and progressive policy positions, drawing comparisons to challenges he faced during his own presidential campaigns.

For Democrats, the appearance marked an effort to bring together different wings of the party and increase turnout as early voting began across Michigan.

Nicki Minaj Song Reportedly Sparks Awkward Moment

One of the more unusual claims surrounding the Detroit rally involves music superstar Nicki Minaj.

At a rally event, a DJ played a Minaj track, prompting boos from members of the audience before the song was abruptly stopped.

The reaction has been linked to Minaj’s increasingly public association with President Trump and conservative political circles.

Trump and Nicki Minaj Head to Port Huron

Meanwhile, Republicans are preparing their own high-profile campaign appearance.

President Donald Trump is scheduled to appear in Port Huron on Sunday, October 25, alongside Nicki Minaj, according to a report announcing the rapper’s participation.

The event is intended to support Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers and other GOP candidates seeking office in Michigan.

Minaj’s planned appearance adds an entertainment-industry dimension to the Republican campaign, placing one of hip-hop’s most recognizable figures alongside the sitting president during the closing days of the election season.

El-Sayed and Rogers are competing for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Democratic Senator Gary Peters, while Benson faces Republican John James in the governor’s race.

The campaigns are addressing issues including affordability, health care, economic policy, immigration, and the direction of the federal government.
