PORTLAND, Jamaica — One of Jamaica’s most beloved destination parties is back this week as Sun Up returns for its second staging of 2026, bringing hundreds of revelers to the historic Folly Lighthouse in Port Antonio on Friday, August 1, 2026
With 2027 marking 10 years since the launch of the Sun Up Party Series, founder and promoter Peter Hall says the event has grown from a simple breakfast hangout into one of Portland’s signature entertainment experiences.
Speaking with World Music Views, Peter reflected on the journey of building a brand that has become synonymous with good food, beautiful scenery, and unforgettable vibes.
“We’ve been doing this for almost 10 years now,” he said. “It started as a morning vibe where people could party through the night, watch the sun come up, then enjoy breakfast together. There wasn’t really anything like that before.”
Today, Sun Up has evolved into a major event held three times every year—on New Year’s Day (January 1), Good Friday, and August 1 to coincide with Jamaica’s Independence celebrations.

More Than Just a Party
Peter believes Portland itself is one of the biggest attractions.
“Just driving to Portland gives you a peace of mind,” he explained. “That alone puts people in a comfortable zone. Then they get to enjoy some of the nicest locations in Portland where a party could ever be kept.”
Over the years, Sun Up has attracted patrons not only from across Jamaica but from overseas, making it one of the island’s premier destination events.
Historic Setting for Independence Weekend
This Saturday’s staging takes place at the historic Folly Lighthouse, overlooking the Caribbean Sea on the outskirts of Port Antonio town.
According to Peter, the location was intentionally selected to celebrate Jamaica’s history as the country prepares to observe Emancipation Day and Independence.
“We’re bringing a big cultural vibe,” he said. “There will be Jamaican colours, historical displays, and we’re telling the story of the Folly Lighthouse and the Folly Ruins, a landmark that many people pass but don’t really know the history behind.”
The seaside venue promises spectacular views with water surrounding the peninsula, adding another memorable backdrop to the Sun Up experience.
Food at the Heart of the Brand
While Sun Up has become known for its music and atmosphere, Peter says food remains the heart of everything he does.
A chef and restaurateur, he also owns Roots 21 Kitchen in Port Antonio which has been visited by several top celebrities including Sam Smith.
“Food is my main core,” he said. “Food is my talent. Food is my love. Whenever I do food, it comes from my heart.”

That philosophy extends to Sun Up, where patrons can expect an extensive culinary experience.
The event will feature breakfast offerings, buffet options, fresh fruit stations, coconut jelly vendors, Sky Juice, and even an ice cream truck to keep guests refreshed throughout the day.
“You won’t be thirsty and you won’t be hungry,” Peter promised.
Tickets Almost Sold Out
With demand running high, Peter revealed that tickets are nearly exhausted.
The remaining tickets are available only at Roots 21 Restaurant and Graphic Ways in Port Antonio, with organizers anticipating another sold-out event.
Giving Back Quietly
Beyond the entertainment, Peter shared something many patrons may not know.
Each staging of Sun Up quietly supports charitable causes within Portland, including infirmaries, children’s homes, and organizations serving people with special needs.
“We always do something for the community,” he said. “We support our young people and our elderly. It’s something we do naturally. We don’t really promote it—we just believe in giving back.”
That community-first approach has become an important part of the Sun Up philosophy, proving the event is about more than music and celebration.
