Grammy-nominated reggae artist Capleton has officially retained his Canadian visa and is now set to headline the upcoming Soulfood Caribbean Festival: Fire in the Park on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Esna Park in Markham.

The event marks Capleton’s return to the Canadian stage after 16 years and comes just ahead of the release of his 21st studio album, Heights of Fire, on June 26, 2026. Produced by Evidence Music, the 16-track project will be Capleton’s first full-length album in 16 years and follows his 2010 release I-Ternal Fire via VP Records.

Capleton released his debut album, Lotion Man, in 1991 and quickly established himself as one of Jamaica’s most influential reggae and dancehall artists. Over the decades, he built a powerful catalog with albums including Prophecy (1995), More Fire (2000), Still Blazin’ (2002), and Reign of Fire (2004).

His 2002 album Still Blazin’ earned international recognition after receiving a nomination for Best Reggae Album at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards.

Born Clifton George Bailey III in St. Mary, Jamaica, Capletion is one of reggae and dancehall’s most influential figures. Known by nicknames including “King Shango,” “The Fireman,” and “The Prophet,”

Capleton began his music journey in the late 1980s after moving from St. Mary to Kingston to pursue a career as a dancehall deejay. He gained early international exposure in 1989 when he performed in Canada alongside Ninjaman and Flourgon.

He first became known for hardcore dancehall tracks before transitioning into more conscious and spiritual music during the 1990s. Songs like Alms House, Tour, and Wings of the Morning helped establish him internationally and led to a deal with Def Jam Recordings. Albums such as Prophecy and I-Testament further cemented his status in reggae music.

Beyond music, Capleton is also known for his charity work through his annual “A St Mary Mi Come From” event, which has supported schools and hospitals in Jamaica since 2000.
