A new filing in the lawsuit brought by law firm Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, LLP (GRSM) against Onika Maraj and Harajuku Barbie Music, LLC shows that the plaintiff has successfully obtained a clerk’s default against the corporate defendant, even as its efforts to secure a default against Nicki Minaj herself remain stalled by ongoing service-of-process issues.
According to documents filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on May 19, 2026 and obtained by World Music Views, the clerk entered default against Harajuku Barbie Music, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company. The clerk’s notation on page one of the filing reflects that the default was entered on 05/19/2026.
Importantly, the request was directed only at Harajuku Barbie Music, LLC and not at Onika Maraj individually.
The filing specifically requests:
“Enter default of defendant: HARAJUKU BARBIE MUSIC, LLC, a Delaware Limited Liability Company.”
The form does not seek entry of default against Onika Maraj herself. Instead, it focuses solely on the corporate entity named as a defendant in the action.
That distinction is significant because the court recently rejected GRSM’s attempts to obtain a default against Onika Maraj on the grounds that service had not been properly completed.
The declaration of mailing attached to the filing states that on May 19, 2026, copies of the Request for Entry of Default were mailed to:
- Onika Maraj, care of Patricia O., at a New York address; and
- Harajuku Barbie Music, LLC, care of Marcela Ortega, at a West Hollywood, California address.
The filing indicates that notice of the default request was therefore sent to both the individual defendant and the LLC before the clerk entered default against the company.
The development comes shortly after the court again declined to enter default against Onika Maraj.
In the court’s prior ruling, the clerk noted that service on another individual did not constitute personal service on Maraj and advised that compliance with California Code of Civil Procedure § 415.20 was required. In other words, the court determined that the plaintiff had not yet demonstrated valid service on the individual defendant sufficient to support entry of default.
As a result, the case now stands in an unusual procedural posture:
- Harajuku Barbie Music, LLC is in default after the clerk entered default on May 19, 2026.
- Onika Maraj (Nicki Minaj) is not in default because the court continues to question whether she has been properly served.
A clerk’s default is not the same thing as a final judgment. It is a procedural step that prevents the defaulted party from responding unless the default is later set aside.
GRSM may now seek further relief against Harajuku Barbie Music, LLC based on the default already entered. Meanwhile, the plaintiff must still overcome the service challenge involving Onika Maraj if it hopes to obtain a default or judgment against her individually.
