Drake’s latest chart takeover is producing headlines across the music industry while simultaneously delivering a major stimulus package to Jamaican dancehall star Popcaan. Thanks to their latest collaboration, “Amazing Shape,” Popcaan is finally set to make his long-awaited Billboard Hot 100 debut at No. 75, earning the first Hot 100 entry of his career.

The latest chart predictions have the track opening with 63.4K units, fueled largely by 6.4 million U.S. streams, giving Popcaan the strongest commercial opening of his career in the United States. The song has also sold more than 10,000 units in Canada and is set to debut in the top 40 on the Canadian Hot 100.

It will be the highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100 featuring a Jamaican in almost a decade. The last song featuring a Jamaican to debut on the Billboard hot 100 was “Shake It to the Max (Fly)” by Moliy, Silent Addy, Skillibeng, and Shenseea at No. 91 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week ending May 31, 2025.

In recent years “Bam” by JAY-Z (featuring Damian Marley) which samples Sister Nancy debuted at No. 47 on the Hot 100 in 2017.

Sean Paul’s last single to directly debut on the US Billboard Hot 100 was his feature on Sia’s massive 2016 hit, Cheap Thrills
The track officially debuted on the Hot 100 chart at No. 81 on the chart dated March 5, 2016

Popcaan’s relationship with Drake stretches back more than ten years. By the mid-2010s, Popcaan had already established himself as one of Jamaica’s biggest exports through records such as “Only Man She Want” and “Everything Nice.” Drake quickly became one of his most vocal supporters, frequently praising his music and helping introduce him to a broader North American audience through OVO Sound Radio. At a time when dancehall was becoming increasingly influential in mainstream music, Drake consistently highlighted Popcaan as one of the genre’s defining voices.

Their partnership reached a new level in 2016 with Drake’s global smash “Controlla.” Popcaan appeared on the original version of the song and played a key role in its early rollout, but was eventually removed from the final release on the Views album. That same year, he joined Drake on select dates of the highly successful Summer Sixteen Tour, further cementing his place within Drake’s inner circle.

In 2018, the relationship became official when Popcaan signed with OVO Sound, making him one of the label’s most prominent international artists. The move formalized years of friendship and collaboration, establishing Popcaan as a central figure within the OVO ecosystem.

The duo continued to build on that foundation with a string of collaborations, most notably 2020’s “Twist & Turn,” which also featured PARTYNEXTDOOR and became one of Popcaan’s biggest international records. That song hit Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 peaking at No. 19, the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay debuted and peaked at No. 36. On the Rhythmic Songs Airplay chart it reached No. 26 and on the Canadian Hot 100 it peaked at No. 47.

Their chemistry remained evident on 2023’s “We Caa Done,” which has surpassed 50 million Spotify streams.

This week’s chart projections indicate that Drake will place 41 songs on the Hot 100 dated May 30, consisting of 40 new debuts and one re-entry. He is expected to occupy nine positions inside the Top 10, led by the No. 1 debut of “Janice STFU.”
