Patrick Ewing is once again putting Jamaica on his signature sneaker.
Ewing Athletics has announced a surprise October 2 restock of the limited-edition “Jamaica” 33 Hi, a Jamaican-inspired version of the basketball legend’s iconic high-top sneaker.
The shoe is predominantly dressed in crisp white leather, allowing the colours of the Jamaican flag to provide the accents. Black runs along the outsole and midsole and appears prominently on the ankle strap, while deep green covers the tongue, buckle hardware and the large “33” ankle patch. Yellow detailing appears around the eyelets and on the number 33.
Its most distinctly Jamaican feature appears around the back: an embroidered Jamaican flag sits prominently on each heel, directly beneath the ankle straps.
Ewing’s signature is embroidered in red along the side of the sneaker, adding a contrasting detail to the otherwise Jamaica-inspired palette. The chunky silhouette, oversized ankle strap and high-cut construction retain the unmistakable early-1990s look of the original Ewing 33 Hi.
The release is personal for Ewing, who was born in Kingston before moving to the United States as a child. In announcing the restock, Ewing Athletics highlighted his continued connection to the island, writing that the former New York Knicks star “never forgot his roots after moving to America.”
The company also pointed to Ewing continuing to speak Jamaican Patois throughout his public career despite being teased for his accent after arriving in the United States.
“This one is for di massives, for di culture,” the brand said in its announcement.
The 2026 release, however, is not the first time Ewing Athletics has dressed the 33 Hi in Jamaica’s colours.
The earliest Jamaica edition that WMV could verify dates to 2013, when Ewing Athletics released a “Jamaica” 33 Hi alongside a Georgetown edition celebrating Ewing’s college career.
Sneaker publications covering that release described the Jamaica model as a direct homage to Ewing’s birthplace. Like the new version, the 2013 sneaker featured a predominantly white leather upper accented by Jamaica’s national colours and an embroidered Jamaican flag on the heel. It went on sale in the United States on March 30, 2013, for US$110.
The Jamaica concept subsequently returned. In August 2018, Ewing Athletics released another white “Jamaica” 33 Hi as part of a three-shoe collection. Sneaker News reported that the model was specifically designed to honour Ewing’s Jamaican heritage and Kingston birthplace. That edition retailed for US$120.
The repeated releases make the “Jamaica” 33 Hi one of the clearest expressions of Ewing’s Caribbean identity within his footwear line. Rather than merely using Jamaica’s colours as a design theme, the sneakers have consistently been marketed around Ewing’s personal connection to the country.
For 2026, the Jamaica 33 Hi returns on October 2 at 9 a.m. Eastern Time, with men’s sizes 5 through 16 scheduled to be sold exclusively through Ewing Athletics, according to the company’s announcement supplied to WMV.
