Dancehall icon Vybz Kartel has earned his first Gold certification in the UK with his 2016 hit Fever.
According to the British Phonographic Industry, the dancehall floor anthem has sold 400,000 units in streams and sales equivalent units in the UK as measured by the Official Charts Company.
The song was previously Certified Silver in 2023 for sales and streams surpassing 200,000 units. Featured on Kartel’s 2016 album King of the Dancehall and produced by TJ Records, “Fever” has become Kartel’s most successful dancehall song amassing 147 million streams on Spotify as of July 3, 2026. On YouTube, the song audio and music video uploads have cumulatively surpassed 100 million views.
After regaining his freedom in 2024 after his murder conviction was overturned, the “World Boss” surprised fans by revealing that “Fever” was inspired by the hit TV series Gossip Girl, leaving social media buzzing over the unexpected creative influence behind one of dancehall’s biggest songs.
Fans were quick to react, with one writing, “This man has no bounds.” Another joked, “One a di baddest girl songs come from being inspired by watching a chic flick from the most gangster artiste, it nuh really add up but it work.”
The revelation also sparked plenty of humor online. One user posted, “Today years old finding out Vybz Kartel wrote ‘XOXO my love is very special’ because of his love for the show Gossip Girl.”
