More than a decade after becoming a worldwide phenomenon, OMI’s “Cheerleader” has become the first song by a Jamaican artist to earn a 6x Platinum certification in the U.K.
According to the British Phonographic Industry, the global smash “Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix)” has sold 3.6 million units across streams and sales as of August 14, 2026, as measured by the Official Charts Company.
OMI is now the second Caribbean artist to have a song certified 6x Platinum in the U.K., following Rihanna, whose Eminem collaboration “Love the Way You Lie” and Calvin Harris collaboration “We Found Love” were last certified 6x Platinum in November 2025 and March 2026, respectively.
Released through Ultra Records/Sony Music, the Felix Jaehn remix of “Cheerleader” has steadily accumulated certifications for more than a decade.
“Cheerleader” has added another 600,000 units in just over two and a half years since it was certified 5x Platinum on January 5, 2024. It previously went 4x Platinum in August 2020 and 3x Platinum in March 2017.
Born Omar Samuel Pasley, OMI originally recorded “Cheerleader” years before it became a worldwide hit. The song took on a new life after German DJ and producer Felix Jaehn remixed it, giving the laid-back Jamaican record a tropical house makeover that helped propel it onto pop radio and charts around the world.
The remix ultimately became one of the defining global hits of 2015, peaking at No. 1 in the UK for 4 connective weeks and climbed all the way to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making OMI one of a select group of Jamaican acts to conquer bob the UK and America’s premier singles chart.
