Shaggy’s 1995 hit “Boombastic”earns Double Platinum certification in New Zealand on June 11, 2026.
The certification was awarded by Recorded Music NZ, New Zealand’s official music certification body, recognizing the streaming and sales equivalents of 60,000 units.
Reflecting on the achievement, Shaggy spoke exclusively with World Music Views expressing gratitude for the song’s enduring impact across generations.
“It’s great see this song that was created over 30 years ago still bringing joy to the fans and is now the soundtrack to a new generation of fans. Special thanx to God and the fans who have rocked with me over the years.”
“Boombastic” first entered New Zealand’s certification history with a Gold certification on May 9, 2019. The track reached Platinum status on April 14, 2022, before climbing to Double Platinum on June 11, 2026.
The new certification adds to an impressive list of accolades Shaggy has accumulated in New Zealand over the years.
His biggest success in the territory remains the worldwide smash hit “It Wasn’t Me,” which has steadily grown from Gold certification in 2015 to Six Times Platinum certification as of March 20, 2025.
Another fan favorite, “Angel” featuring Rayvon, has also enjoyed remarkable success. After first achieving Gold status in 2016, the track continued to gain momentum, reaching Four Times Platinum on January 29, 2026.
Meanwhile, “Hey Sexy Lady” achieved a new milestone in 2026, upgrading from Gold certification in 2023 to Platinum status on June 4, 2026, just one week before “Boombastic” secured its Double Platinum award.

It is Sting’s first time being nominated at Caribbean’s premier award show.
Both Shaggy and Sting recently wrapped the New York staging of The Last Ship, at the Met Opera from June 9–13.
