Jamaican dancehall star Shenseea has secured a nomination for the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards, earning a place among an international field of stars competing at this year’s ceremony.
Shenseea is the only female nominated for Crossover Artist of the Year, where she will go up against Bruno Mars, Nigerian superstar Burna Boy, French-Algerian DJ and producer DJ Snake, and Steve Aoki.
She is the first female Jamaican artist to be nominated for a Billboard Latin Music Award.
This historic nomination follows her massive crossover success earlier in July 2026, when she became the first female Jamaican artist to ever hit No. 1 on a U.S. Billboard Latin chart. She achieved the milestone with “Echo (FIFA World Cup 2026),” her hit collaboration with reggaeton icon Daddy Yankee, which topped the Latin Airplay chart.
While Shenseea is the only Jamaican artist among the finalists announced for this year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards, she joins a select group of Jamaicans who have previously earned nominations at the awards.
Sean Paul was nominated for Crossover Artist of the Year at the 2023 Billboard Latin Music Awards, following a string of successful collaborations in the Latin music market.
Jamaican producer Tarik “Rvssian” Johnston received a Crossover Artist of the Year nomination last year, reflecting his success in the Latin market through major collaborations and hits, including “Santa.”
OMI became the first Jamaican artist nominated for a Billboard Latin Music Award in 2016 for Crossover Artist of the Year following the massive international success of his Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Cheerleader.”
Shaggy was also nominated in 2016 Shaggy in the Hot Latin Song of the Year, Vocal Event category. He was nominated for his feature on the hit bilingual track “Sunset” alongside Puerto Rican artist Farruko and reggaeton star Nicky Jam.
Mexican star Peso Pluma leads the overall field this year with 17 nominations, including Artist of the Year and Top Latin Album of the Year for DINASTÍA, his collaborative project with Tito Double P.
Tito Double P follows with 15 nominations, while Mexican-American group Fuerza Regida has 12.
Among the leading female acts, Colombian superstar Karol G has nine nominations. Prince Royce has eight nominations, while Bad Bunny has seven.
The 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards will feature 47 categories covering Latin pop, tropical, Latin rhythm and regional Mexican music, along with special honours recognising careers and contributions to the music industry.
The finalists and eventual winners are determined by the performance of recordings on Billboard’s album and song charts during the eligibility period from September 13, 2025 to September 5, 2026. The measurements include streaming, album and digital song sales, radio airplay and touring data tracked by Billboard and Luminate.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for October 22 at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, and will be broadcast live on Telemundo and Peacock beginning at 8 p.m. ET. It will also air on Universo and the Telemundo app, with coverage across Latin America and the Caribbean through Telemundo Internacional.
The ceremony coincides with Billboard Latin Music Week, scheduled for October 19-22 in Miami Beach.
