Vybz Kartel’s 2016 hit single “Fever” has earned Double Platinum certification in Canada ten years after its release.
According to Music Canada, the song has surpassed 160, 000 units in physical sales, Digital dowloands and streaming equivalent units as of November November 5, 2026.
It is Kartel’s first Canada certification after a two decade career.
Released in June 2016 as part of Kartel’s King of the Dancehall album, “Fever” quickly became a fan favourite, gaining popularity for its infectious rhythm, memorable lyrics and the distinctive delivery that has made the self-proclaimed Worl’ Boss a household name.
The song previously earned Gold certification in the U.S. and UK from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and British Phonographic Industry respectively.
The “World Boss” revealed that “Fever” was inspired by the hit TV series Gossip Girl and that the song was recorded using an iPhone 5 and a mattress while he was in prison.
“No mic—directly into the phone,” Kartel explained. “They give you a mattress in the bunk, so I used it to imitate studio padding. I had the phone about three feet away from my face, wrapped the mattress around my head, and recorded while on my knees.”
“It was crazy,” he continued. “The beat was on a separate phone, so the vocals went into the iPhone as a cappella. Then, we had to send it to the studio for the engineer to work his magic.”
